Loading History...

A well-worn leatherbound Welsh language Bible, dating from 1816.

Originally belonging to Evan Pugh (b. 1768) and his partner (wife?) given as Margaret Richard (b. 1774), and beautifully inscribed as such with a flourish on the rear endpaper. The Bible then passed down to his daughter Ann, who married Griffith Owen, son of Evan Owen (or Owens) of Pandy-Bach, Dolgelly. In all, ten individuals across three generations with birthdates are listed in the Bible. Included is a small half foolscap sheet of paper listing the baptism of Griffith in 1816, as well as naming his parents.

As is common for well used Bibles of this era, it demonstrates considerable wear, the rear board and final few pages being detached but present. The spine shows some bowing. The pages are generally clean. We can quote for repair or full restoration.

A charming item with considerable character which exudes history.
