Family Bibles

A Family Bible is a Bible handed down through the generations, each generation recording information about the family’s history. This information often includes births, deaths, baptisms, and marriages. Other items and may pre-date civil registration. In many cases, it may be the only place a birth, marriage or death of a family member is recorded. Family Bibles often hold other treasures between their pages and it’s not uncommon to find letters, newspaper cuttings, bookmarks, photographs, calling cards. leaves, flowers and locks of hair. might also be placed inside a Family Bible. Family Bibles were common in the United kingdom from the Early Georgian period until the Edwardian period and are also found in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Over the years, Family Bibles have become lost and orphaned, and it is not uncommon to find them in junk shops, antiquarian bookshops and auction houses across the World.
